Marvel and Netflix have released the first trailer for their latest comic book series, Jessica Jones. As with the excellent Daredevil, the story takes place within the same world as all of Marvel’s film and TV properties. Except because it’s on Netflix, it gets to go darker and more violent than anything else.

In fact, Jessica Jones looks to be upping the ante on what Daredevil started. The trailer hints at some serious horror-level cruelty, with swinging bodies and allusions to something truly monstrous in the title character’s (Krysten Ritter) past. All this stems from one of the most twisted super villains Marvel has ever brought to the screen in Killgrave (David Tennant). Better known as The Purple Man in the comics, the character can control people using just his voice, and the show looks to be taking that power into all the darkest corners of possibility.

Check out the trailer, which also introduces Mike Colter as Luke Cage (next in line for his own solo Netflix show), below.

The series also stars Rachael Taylor (as Trish Walker), Carrie-Anne Moss (as Jeryn Hogarth), Eka Darville (as Malcolm), Erin Moriarty (as Hope), and Wil Traval (as Will Simpson). All 13 episodes of Jessica Jones premiere on Netflix on November 20th. Find the official synopsis below.

Ever since her short-lived stint as a Super Hero ended in tragedy, Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) has been rebuilding her personal life and career as a hot-tempered, sardonic, badass private detective in Hell’s Kitchen, New York City. Plagued by self-loathing, and a wicked case of PTSD, Jessica battles demons from within and without, using her extraordinary abilities as an unlikely champion for those in need… especially if they’re willing to cut her a check.
